Part IV…The Way Home and …
Bonneville Sunrises are …
Going home
We left Friday morning after a leisurely breakfast and drove into Salt Lake City.
We stopped at Ben’s for a while to check the transmission thoroughly one more time before hitting the road home. The transmission checked out perfect, we were all satisfied with the work and we piled into the van and off we went. It does seem funny after you done something exciting that the trip home is always uneventful. It seemed like the sun was always shining, the wind was at our back, and the miles moved along.
The ride home was actually pretty uneventful.
After a brief stop at Steve’s house, I loaded my car and took off toward Dunedin Florida, ( 800 miles away) with a brief stop at Nate and Nina’s in Yulee, Florida.
Total mileage for me 2,800 going and 2,800 coming home and really great adventure! Would I do it again…you bet!
Soo how about Steve….
Quote from Steve.
“Many don’t understand the racing here at Bonneville and I will try to explain. From the pit area prestige is 6 miles away on the salt. You go around the long course And ride 2-1/2 miles to the short course staging area. You ride out to course and gave a 1 mile run-up to the start of the timed mile. Then, a 1-1/2 miles to turn out.. then the 12 mile ride back to impound. If you qualified for a return run which I did 6 times you now ride the course backwards and then you average the the 2 for your speedo. The salt on course is not real smooth, but the access roads are rough. That meant the 13 trips round trip on the RD350 came out to 312 miles! YES,it is worth it!! YES!!!”
So what did Steve Garn acheive on the 2016 Bonneville Trip?
They give medals when you acheive 100mph and 200mph , 300mph, and 400mph

The APS means partially steam lined and involved only adding the plastic head light back on the bike 115.164 is pretty fast for street legal 1972 RD350 motorcycle.
After all this is only a 350cc two stroke motor powering this machine!
