Travel Note: If you a rent car, tell the rental car guys you are going to gamble in Wendover, if you say Salt Flats, they get a little nervous. Salt KILLS rental cars quick! Trust me on this one… Joey, Butch, Ron and Cody you can work this out on your own.
Notes on what to take and what to wear at the Salt Flats!
- Long pants, light colors are best, long pants are needed! The Salt is rough on your knees and legs, it is cold in the mornings, plus the sun will burn your legs being out there all day!
- Sun block 50 or above is needed, the sun hits from the top and reflects big time off the salt. The under your nose will burn if you don’t use sunblock there. Don’t ask me how I know this…
- Long sleeve shirts are needed. Light weight but long sleeves are needed. It can be in high 50’s in the morning and up to the low 90’s in the afternoon, but the sun is killer and will burn you.
- Bring snacks, Gatorade and soda’s from home and store them in the truck. There is only one lunch wagon there and at times they don’t open until noon or so, and remember you are there at dawn or earlier. We usually buy ice early in the morning to keep things cool.
- Bring the worst pair of shoes you have, if it rains and did last week at Bonneville the salt is corrosive and everything is ruined even if it does not rain! Bring the extra pair in case…
- Wide brimmed hat with tie strings to hold it on your head, the sun is hot and the wind blows!
- Drink water while there. If you are not peeing every two hours, you are dehydrated and that can cause cramps and other bad stuff!

Sunday thru Thursday RACING starts at 7:00AM!
